Athens, April 10, 2025Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Greece, Timur Sultangozhin, met with Professor Sophia Papaioannou, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and International Relations at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), to discuss ways of enhancing scientific and academic collaboration between the university and higher education institutions in Kazakhstan.

During their discussions, both sides expressed particular interest in forming a partnership with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. This envisioned partnership would span a range of joint initiatives – from faculty and student exchanges to the development of collaborative educational programs, scientific research projects, and involvement in both international and European endeavors.

As part of this potential collaboration, the institutions also plan to organize joint scientific conferences, including events dedicated to the legacies of Aristotle and the renowned Eastern thinker Al-Farabi, as well as research internships and other activities aimed at strengthening academic ties between Kazakhstan and Greece. Both sides expressed confidence that these efforts will lay the groundwork for a lasting partnership and open new avenues in the fields of education and science.

Reference: the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), founded in 1837, is one of Europe’s oldest universities. As the largest university in Greece, it offers a comprehensive range of academic programs at all levels—from undergraduate to doctoral—and conducts extensive research in fields such as the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and medicine.
