Kazakhstan geologists celebrate their professional holiday on the first Sunday of April. Geologist's Day is not just another date on the calendar. It reminds us again of the importance of basic Earth science. In addition to finding natural resources, it helps to understand the history of the planet.

The head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokaev has repeatedly said that the development of the field of geology is important for the economic growth of the country. Tasks and tasks such as modernizing the management system of the mining sector, bringing the area of geological and geophysical research up to 2.2 million square kilometers by 2026, developing deposits of rare and rare earth metals have been assigned.

One of the recently discovered discoveries is that several promising areas with large resources of rare earth metals, which can be used in the production of semiconductors and powerful magnets, were discovered in the Kuyrektikol section of the Karkaraly district of Karaganda region. The total estimated reserve of rare earth metals at a depth of 300 meters exceeds 20 million tons.

In his speech at the "Central Asia - European Union" summit held in Samarkand, the President proposed the creation of a regional center for the study of rare earth metals in Astana. This scientific institution provides enterprises and investors with up-to-date information about mines that can be developed, development of technologies.

With the growth of the population in the world, the need for metals is increasing, so geology is becoming more important. Academician of the Academy of Mineral Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, geologist Olzhabay Ismailov, who has been working in this field for more than 50 years, expressed this opinion. In 2018, he opened the first geological museum in Astana to promote geology and inform the public. The museum is often visited by schoolchildren, but it will be interesting for everyone.

The museum collection includes more than a thousand exhibits. All classes of minerals are presented - from natural elements, nitrates, borates, to organic salts collected on the territory of Kazakhstan, as well as from all over the world - in Europe, Africa, South America, Australia. In addition, the museum has a paleontological collection, an archive of geological literature from the beginning of the 19th and the middle of the 20th century, and a collection of field geological tools. The museum stock is updated and supplemented with new exhibits.
