Kazakhstan Strengthens Partnership with Leading Boston Universities

Boston, USA, April 23–24, 2025 – The Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek engaged in a series of events aimed at expanding partnerships with leading American academic and research institutions, including Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
One of the key events of the visit featured the participation of the Kazakhstan’s delegation in a roundtable discussion at Harvard University titled "National and Global AI Governance: Perspectives from the U.S. and Kazakhstan", co-organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, Institute of Digital Engineering and Technologies at Satbayev University and Narxoz University.
The roundtable brought together Kazakh and American experts, providing an important platform to discuss the integration of Kazakhstani research groups into international scientific consortia, as well as the development of joint projects in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, sustainable energy, and the digital transformation of education.
Participants framed the discussions within the broader context of global initiatives such as the United Nations Summit of the Future and the Global Digital Compact, with a strong emphasis on the role of artificial intelligence in education, science, and international relations.
The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan and the Davis Center at Harvard University signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen cooperation in joint scientific research and academic initiatives.
Minister Nurbek also held a special meeting with Kazakh students currently pursuing their studies at American universities. He emphasized the critical importance of students actively applying the knowledge and skills they acquire abroad to advance Kazakhstan’s development. Discussions focused on academic mobility, involvement in research initiatives and startups, and the students’ role in driving innovation, supporting scientific advancement, and shaping a new generation of leaders committed to achieving the country’s sustainable development goals.
