Kazakhstan’s students participate in the International Olympiad in Chemistry in Brazil

Belo Horizonte, May 6, 2025- The opening ceremony of the 59th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad in an interactive format combining elements of modern science and Brazilian traditions took place in the capital of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.

At the Olympiad, the Kazakhstan team was represented by gifted students from different regions of Kazakhstan and became one of the most numerous teams (11 students) among teams from 40 countries of the world.

In 2025, the Olympiad, which will be held from May 6 to 12 as part of Brazil's BRICS presidency, was organized by the Chemistry Faculty of Moscow State University and the Melnichenko Foundation in cooperation with the Federal University of Minas Gerais. The opening ceremony of the event was attended by representatives of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Brazil, who warmly welcomed the Kazakh team and wished them success in the upcoming competition.

For reference: The International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad (IMHO) is a large international competition for highschool students in chemistry. It is a competitions that holds a lot of tradition as it was established in 1967. The Olympics usually take place in late April or early May. This year it was timed to coincide with Brazil's BRICS presidency. The Mendeleev Olympiad is the most difficult competition in chemistry and is named after the great chemist Dmitry Mendeleev, who invented the periodic table.
