Swedish companies are showing interest in localization and sustainable projects in Kazakhstan

Stockholm, May 5-6, 2025 — At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, a Kazakhstan-Sweden business round table was held, organized within the framework of the official visit of the delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of Sweden. The main goal of the visit was the expansion of bilateral investment and technological cooperation, as well as the promotion of Kazakhstan’s economic opportunities among the leading representatives of Swedish business.

The Kazakh delegation was headed by Vice Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Saparbekov. It also included Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Gabidulla Ospankulov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy Association “Qazaq Green” Nurlan Kapenov, Director of the Executive Directorate of the Union of Mechanical Engineers of Kazakhstan Talgat Bazarbekov, foreign representative of the JSC “National Company Kazakh Invest” Ulbossyn Sarybayeva, as well as representatives of Kazakhstani companies working in the fields of mechanical engineering, energy and information-communication technologies.

The Swedish side was headed by State Secretary for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Diana Janse. The round table was attended by representatives of Business Sweden, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Eurasian countries, as well as the largest Swedish companies, including ABB, Scania, Ericsson, Sandvik, Epiroc, SKF AB, Vaderstad AB, Tornum Group and Volvo Trucks.

Opening the event, State Secretary Diana Janse emphasized: “Kazakhstan demonstrates stability and sustainable economic growth, creating favorable conditions for doing business. This forum opens new perspectives for cooperation, and Sweden is ready to comprehensively support the development of mutually beneficial projects between our countries.” The State Secretary also called on Swedish business to participate more actively in joint initiatives with Kazakhstan.

During the discussions, the parties noted the significant potential for deepening cooperation in the fields of mechanical engineering, mining, renewable energy, agriculture and IT. Particular emphasis was placed on the interest of Swedish business in investment opportunities in Kazakhstan, including the implementation of projects consistent with the principles of sustainable development and the “green” transition.

The Kazakh side presented government support measures aimed at improving the investment climate, and also presented a number of specific projects open to the participation of foreign companies. Special attention was paid to the introduction of innovative solutions and advanced technologies in key sectors of the economy.

As part of the visit, separate meetings were also held between the Kazakh delegation and representatives of Volvo Trucks, Scania CV AB, the Swedish Solar Energy Association and Sandvik, during which the possibilities for localization of Swedish machinery and equipment in Kazakhstan were discussed.

As a result of the events, an agreement was reached on continuing a substantive dialogue at the level of sectoral ministries, business associations and companies, as well as on the development of concrete mechanisms for practical cooperation.

The Kazakhstan-Sweden round table became an important platform for strengthening business ties and building long-term partnerships between the two countries, with a focus on investment, technology and sustainable development.
