Astana and Ljubljana Strengthen Cultural Ties: New Prospects for Cooperation

5 May 2025 - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Slovenia Daniyar Sarekenov met with the General and Artistic Director of the Ljubljana Festival Darko Brlek, discussing prospects for deepening the cultural dialogue between the two countries.
The Ljubljana Festival, founded in 1953, is rightfully considered one of the oldest and most prestigious music forums in Europe. In 2025, from June 20 to September 12, the 73rd festival will present a rich program, including symphony and chamber concerts, opera and ballet performances, as well as performances by jazz, popular music and theater stars, bringing together outstanding artists from Slovenia and around the world.
During the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of cultural exchange for strengthening bilateral relations. Ambassador D.Sarekenov and Mr. D.Brlek expressed their common desire to intensify cooperation, including the participation of Kazakh artists in festivals and concerts, which will be an important step in bringing the peoples of Kazakhstan and Slovenia closer together.
Director D.Brlek highly praised the cultural achievements of Kazakhstan and enthusiastically invited the country's leading creative groups - the Astana Opera Theater, the Astana Ballet Ballet, the Kazakh State Symphony Orchestra, as well as performers of traditional and folk music - to take part in future programs of the Ljubljana Festival.
Following the talks, the parties agreed to maintain regular interaction to implement joint cultural initiatives. This cooperation promises to open new horizons for the exchange of experience, inspiration and creativity, the implementation of new projects that will unite the unique cultural traditions of the two countries and give the audience an unforgettable experience.
