Flower-Laying Ceremony Held in Mexico at the Capital's “Monument to the Eagles” in Honor of the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory

Mexico City, May 9, 2025 – The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the United Mexican States took part in a flower-laying ceremony at the monument in honor of the 201st Fighter Squadron – Mexican pilots who fought in World War II. The event was timed to coincide with the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, which has become an integral part of the history and collective memory of many peoples.
Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, the Government of Mexico City, the Ministry of National Defense of Mexico, diplomatic missions accredited in the country, as well as Mexican and Kazakh citizens also took part in the ceremony.
During the commemorative event, the historical significance of the Victory as a common heritage of mankind was especially emphasized. The Great Patriotic War was a severe test for the peoples of the Soviet Union, including Kazakhstan. More than 1.2 million Kazakhs were mobilized to the front, half of them gave their lives.
Special attention was paid to Mexico's contribution to the Victory. Participants honored the memory of the heroes of the 201st Fighter Squadron of the Mexican Air Force who fought on the Pacific Front. This unit became a symbol of international solidarity in the fight against fascism.
The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory and the need for joint efforts by the world community to prevent the repetition of past tragedies. Kazakhstan consistently advocates for strengthening international dialogue, cooperation and peace in the name of a stable and secure future for current and future generations.
