Embassy of Kazakhstan in Ethiopia Participated in Inter-religious Conference

Addis Ababa, May 13-14, 2025 - The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Ethiopia participated in an international conference on Africa’s Faith Communities: advancing the suitable development goals, the African Union Agenda 2063 and the G20 in South Africa’s 2025 process.

The conference was attended by leaders of African world and traditional religions, heads of Inter-religious Councils, diplomats, politicians, NGOs, and representatives of academic and expert circles. Issues of peacebuilding, climate change, education, and the protection of human rights were discussed.

The conference was organized by the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia, the United Religions Initiative-Africa, and the G20 Interfaith Forum, in partnership with the bodies of the African Union.

Opening the event, the President of Ethiopia, H.E. Mr. Taye Atske-Selassie, specifically noted the key role of religious leaders in peacebuilding and promoting progress in Africa, emphasizing that interfaith dialogue is not only a moral duty but also a practical force for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union's Agenda 2063, as religious organizations are already making significant contributions to humanitarian aid, conflict resolution, and democratic participation. He called for justice and reparations for Africans and people of African descent and expressed gratitude to religious leaders for their participation in the national dialogue in Ethiopia.

In his address, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mr. Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, affirmed the African Union's firm commitment to the principles of freedom of religion and equality, emphasizing their inseparable link with the continent's broader efforts to achieve sustainable peace and comprehensive development.

The annual conference aims to strengthen interfaith and intercultural harmony and peace and will make a significant contribution to the upcoming G20 Interfaith Forum.
