8 th Meeting of the Customs Cooperation Subcommittee “Republic of Kazakhstan – European Union” held in Astana

Astana, 27 May 2025 — The 8th meeting of the Customs Cooperation Subcommittee between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the European Union took place in the capital of Kazakhstan. The event was held within the framework of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA).
The Kazakh delegation was headed by Mr. Anuar Uzakbayev, Acting Deputy Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The European delegation was led by Mr. Matthias Petschke, Director for International Relations at the Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union of the European Commission.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation in the customs sphere, with particular emphasis on digitalization, law enforcement, and improving the efficiency of customs administration.
As a result of the meeting, the following areas of joint work were agreed upon:
• Holding online or offline meetings with Kazakhstani economic operators to inform them of the latest updates in EU customs legislation;
• Signing an agreement on the exchange of preliminary information;
• Exchanging experience in the field of law enforcement;
• Organizing training courses on topics such as the use of artificial intelligence in customs administration, protection of intellectual property rights, implementation of a single window system, and customs control at the border through mobile customs teams.
The parties confirmed the high level of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU, as well as their mutual interest in advancing joint initiatives aimed at simplifying procedures, and enhancing transparency and security in international trade.
