From May 26 to 30, 2025, a delegation from one of the leading universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan «Astana Medical University» headed by Rector Ms. Anar Turmukhambetova visited the cities of Islamabad and Lahore.
During the visit, meetings were held with the leadership of Pakistan's leading medical universities – «National University of Medical Sciences» (NUMS), «Rawalpindi Medical University» (RMU), «Shifa Tamir-e-Millat University» (STMU), «King Edward Medical University» (KEMU), University of Punjab, University of Health Sciences Lahore (UHS), as well as one of the largest clinics in Islamabad – «Maroof»International Hospital (MIH).
In addition, negotiations were held with the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, the Minister of Education of Punjab Province, Mr. Rana Sikandar Khayat, representatives of the Medical and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), as well as the General Coordinator of the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC (COMSTECH), Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhry.
During the negotiations, the parties discussed the prospects for establishing cooperation between medical educational institutions in order to explore the possibility of interaction in the field of medical research, student exchange, faculty, study of curricula, etc. In this regard, the parties stressed the need to establish direct contacts between medical universities and healthcare organizations.
Given the large number of Pakistani students currently studying in Kazakhstan, special attention was paid to academic mobility, the possibility of organizing internships in medical educational and clinical institutions in Pakistan, as well as the delivery of lectures in online or offline formats.
The parties also expressed mutual interest in establishing cooperation in order to create a transparent and fair system for selecting citizens of both countries for admission to universities in the Republic of Kazakhstan and Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
