On June 5, Ecologist Day, Kazakhstan, like the rest of the world, pays attention to environmental protection issues. Today, when sustainable development is becoming the basis of state and regional policy, ecology in Kostanay region is designated as one of the strategic priorities. This is not just a fashionable trend, but an urgent need dictated by the challenges of the time and responsibility to future generations.
Environmental agenda of Kostanay region
Kostanay region is a large agro-industrial region. The development of agriculture, mining and transport requires careful treatment of natural resources. In recent years, the region has been taking measures aimed at improving the environmental situation:
 Introduction of automated emission monitoring systems in Kostanay, Rudny, Zhitikara and Lisakovsk;
 Programs for greening settlements and restoring forests;
 Increasing the environmental responsibility of industrial enterprises;
 Support for initiatives for separate waste collection and recycling.
For the Ecologist Day, many events and activities are held annually in the Kostanay region aimed at involving residents in environmental protection.
The following events were held in the region:
- On May 29, 2025, by order of the State Institution "Department of Natural Resources and Nature Management Regulation of the Akimat of the Kostanay Region", the Public Foundation "Ecological Club "Neco" held an eco-hour "Nature without borders - forest, water, cleanliness". During the eco-hour, they discussed a conscious attitude to natural resources: careful attitude to water resources, protection of forests from fire, protection of land from pollution by solid waste.
- On May 31, 2025, the region held environmental campaigns "Moldir Bulak" and "Taza Kala". Government agencies, students, volunteers, eco-activists and local residents took part in the event. The total number of participants was 8,200 people, 850 tons of garbage were collected and removed.
- On June 2, 2025, together with eco-activists and volunteers, an online challenge "10 eco-habits - the right lifestyle" was launched. During the challenge, a conscious attitude to the environment is promoted through publications on social networks for ten days.
- On June 3, 2025, a drawing competition "Taza bolsa tabigat - aman bolar adamzat" was organized in the region among the pupils of the Kostanay Children's Home "Zhanuya". Participants and winners of the competition were presented with memorable gifts and letters of thanks.
The following events are planned:
- from June 5, 2025, the republican campaign "Public Eco-Control" will begin in the region, within the framework of which government agencies together with the public will conduct eco-monitoring of tourist, historical and cultural sites, as well as on improvement issues, including watering green spaces and spontaneous dumps.
On the same day, an eco-marathon will start, which will last until June 10, 2025. During the marathon, events are planned to clean up reservoirs, territories of the state forest fund, local areas and other objects.
- On June 5, 2025, an eco-quiz for the population will be held as part of the project "Conducting events on environmental propaganda", a ceremonial event with a ceremony of awarding the best representatives of the industry with departmental awards, certificates of honor and letters of thanks, an environmental campaign "Tugan zher-taza zher!" will be organized in the villages and districts of the region,
- On June 9, 2025, the Public Foundation "Ecological Club "Neco"" has planned an interactive event for civil servants "Implementation of the principles of a green office" Common cause - common future
Ecology is not only a task for ecologists and environmental services. This is a challenge to the whole society. It is important that every resident of the Kostanay region feels their involvement in the conservation of nature: from the correct disposal of household waste to participation in tree planting.
Only by joint efforts can we preserve clean air, fertile lands and water resources, which the Kostanay region is so rich in. And Ecologist Day is not only a professional holiday, but also a reason to think: what trace will we leave behind?
