The meeting was chaired by the Prosecutor of the East Kazakhstan region, A. Baishulakov. The first deputy akim of the region, Omar Zh.M., heads and representatives of local executive and law enforcement agencies also took part in the work.

         The main topic of the meeting was the discussion of the current criminogenic situation in the region, characterized by a slight increase in registration by 0.6% over the past 5 months, from 1995 to 2007, as well as measures to prevent certain types of offenses.

         Special attention is paid to countering drugs, fraud, the prevention of crimes against persons, minors, in the family and household sphere, as well as child and adolescent crime.

         Reports were heard on measures taken to combat alcohol trafficking, prevent repeat offenses and recidivism, work with youth and involve students in preventive measures.

         The regional Prosecutor stressed the need to implement systematic preventive work and coordinated actions of all interested structures on the ground, as well as the importance of joint responsibility of all government agencies in matters of public safety.

         Following the meeting, a number of specific recommendations were developed aimed at improving the effectiveness of prevention and reducing crime in the region.
