Service members of military unit 5547 of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, stationed in Kyzylorda, were the first to respond and assist residents caught in a residential fire.

While on patrol, the military unit received a call from the police’s operational control center reporting a fire in a residential building in the “Eski Bazar” district. Without delay, duty officer Lieutenant Ernur Abilkhan, along with patrol guards Nurdaulet Adikhalyk and Erdos Makhmudov, quickly arrived at the scene.

Thick smoke was pouring from a third-floor window. Before firefighters arrived, the guardsmen alerted residents about the fire and began organizing an evacuation.

- When we arrived, the entire building was engulfed in smoke, and it was hard to breathe due to the heavy fumes. Despite this, we wet cloths, covered our faces, and helped people get out. At one point, a man told us his young daughter and wife were still inside an apartment on the fifth floor, and he had locked the door from the outside. After receiving the key, we quickly went up and escorted them to safety, - said Lieutenant Ernur Abilkhan.

Thanks to the swift and courageous actions of the National Guard service members, a tragedy was averted. All residents were evacuated in time, and no injuries were reported.
