A service member of military unit 5573 of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Corporal Dostyk Zhaksylyk (seen in the video wearing a black T-shirt), prevented a tragedy and saved the life of a young man who attempted to jump off a bridge in the capital.

The incident occurred at around 00:30 on the night of June 21 on the "Vodopad" bridge located on Koktal Street. Emergency services received a report that a man, born in 1996, was standing behind the bridge’s railing and appeared to be preparing to jump into the river. Preliminary findings indicated that he was in a severely distressed emotional state.

Before police could arrive, tragedy was averted thanks to the quick and decisive actions of Corporal Zhaksylyk, who was returning home after duty. Noticing the man in a precarious position, he immediately approached and began talking to him in an effort to dissuade him from taking a fatal step.

“At first, I thought someone was just out for air,” said Corporal Zhaksylyk. “But as I got closer, I realized he was clearly not himself. He was standing behind the railing, holding on with just one hand. There was no time to hesitate. In moments like that, you don’t think — you act.”

Demonstrating composure and calm, the service member engaged the man in conversation to calm him down. A passerby also joined the effort, and together they managed to pull the man back over the railing, preventing a potential tragedy.

The rescued individual was immediately provided with medical and psychological assistance and is currently under the care of specialists.
