Budapest, 18 June 2025 — Ambassador of Kazakhstan, Mr. Abzal Saparbekuly, met with Mr. Zoltán Horváth, representative of the Hungarian Water Partnership (HWP), to discuss potential cooperation in water supply, sanitation, and sustainable water resource management.
The Hungarian Water Partnership is an industry cluster uniting more than 20 Hungarian companies specializing in innovative and export-oriented solutions in the water sector. The organization actively promotes knowledge transfer, technological innovation, and the international expansion of Hungarian water-related expertise.
During the meeting, the Ambassador shared updates on Kazakhstan’s current water sector reforms. In 2025, Kazakhstan adopted a new Water Code and launched a large-scale modernization program. Key initiatives include the reconstruction of over 3,400 km of irrigation canals, construction of four new and repair of thirty existing reservoirs. More than 97% of the rural population already has access to clean drinking water, with full coverage targeted by the end of 2025.
The parties discussed potential areas of collaboration. The Ambassador proposed organizing a Kazakh-Hungarian business forum in Kazakhstan focused on water technologies, with participation from companies and relevant authorities of both countries. He also suggested launching a pilot project in one of Kazakhstan’s rural areas, involving Hungarian modular solutions for water treatment and sanitation. This project could serve as a scalable model for other regions.
Mr. Horváth expressed strong interest in building closer ties with Kazakh counterparts and noted the relevance of Hungarian technologies in modular treatment systems and sustainable water supply.
Both sides agreed to continue consultations in coordination with Kazakh Invest and relevant governmental bodies, including plans for a potential HWP delegation visit to Kazakhstan.
