President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a law regulating the issue of wearing clothes that cover the face. Wearing such things is now officially prohibited, Tengrinews reports.kz with a link to Akorda.

The norm prohibiting the wearing of face-concealing clothing was included in the Law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on improving law enforcement services, housing and social protection for law enforcement officers, special government agencies, civil protection agencies and military personnel, as well as eliminating excessive legislative regulation in the field of internal affairs cases."

"It is prohibited to wear items of clothing in public places that interfere with face recognition, except in cases where it is necessary to comply with the requirements of the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan, official (official, labor) duties, for medical purposes, civil protection, under weather conditions, as well as for persons directly involved in sports, mass sports and cultural events," the text of the law says.

In early June, the Senate proposed an amendment to ban the wearing of items of clothing that interfere with facial recognition in public places.

Interior Minister Yerzhan Sadenov supported the deputies' proposal.

"This is an initiative of the deputies. We generally support it. Because first of all it is aimed at security. If there's nothing to hide, why cover your face?" - the minister asked himself.

He also added that the relevant proposal had been repeatedly discussed at meetings of the relevant committee with the participation of deputy ministers and senior Interior Ministry officials.
