On June 23, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Amnesty in connection with the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan", which provides for exemption from punishment for crimes of minor and moderate severity and reduction of basic sentences for those convicted of serious or especially serious crimes.

As of today, 95 convicts are under amnesty in institution No. 27, among them there are convicts who belong to socially vulnerable persons, pensioners, and the disabled.

Today, on July 23, the Ural City Court issued a decision against 2 convicts who committed crimes of moderate and minor severity and are subject to release. These convicts were the first to be released from prison No. 27 as part of the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on amnesty.  In the future, based on court decisions, the process of release will be continued with respect to other persons subject to amnesties.

In general, the amnesty is aimed at mitigation of punishment and release from it and gives every convict a chance to improve. The released are assisted in adapting to a new life.
