On July 17, a large-scale clean-up was organized in the Turan district of Shymkent as part of the “Clean Kazakhstan” republican environmental campaign. The event was held to increase environmental culture, sanitize the city, and strengthen the responsibility of the local population towards nature.
Representatives of municipal services, workers of the “Turgyn Uy” and “Zhasyl Shymkent” institutions, residents of the district and volunteers participated in the cleanup with the support of the Turan district akimat. In total, about 100 people were mobilized, and 6 special equipment was involved in the cleaning work. As a result, 86 tons of household and construction waste were collected from the district and sent to the Aktas city landfill.
During the event, the courtyards of multi-storey residential buildings, public spaces, vacant lots, pedestrian paths, ditches and green areas were cleaned. Workers mowed grass, trimmed tree branches, and installed garbage bins. In addition, residents were educated about the importance of waste sorting, recycling, and keeping the environment clean.
Impact on the ecosystem
Such Sabbaths have a positive impact on the city's ecosystem. Timely collection of household waste prevents groundwater pollution and prevents pests that spread diseases. Cleaning green areas improves air quality and creates conditions for natural plant growth. Also, during the Sabbath, canals and ditches that impede the flow of water are cleaned, preventing flooding during rainy days.
Comparison with previous years' experience
This event is held regularly in the Turan district. For example, in 2023, about 60 tons of garbage were collected during such a clean-up, and in 2024, 75 tons were removed. It is noticeable that the number of participants and the share of special equipment is increasing every year. This indicates that the environmental awareness of the population is growing and the akimat consistently supports such events.
It should be noted that the “Clean Kazakhstan” campaign is an important initiative aimed at improving the environmental situation throughout the republic. As part of this project, Saturdays and tree planting campaigns, as well as campaigns on household waste sorting, are also being held in other districts of Shymkent - Al-Farabi, Enbekshi and Abay districts.
Public activity and opinions
According to residents who participated in the cleanup, such events are not limited to cleaning up the area, but also contribute greatly to the formation of an environmental culture in society.
– “We must leave our children the opportunity to live in a clean and comfortable city. For this, every resident should actively participate in such Sabbaths,” says Gulmira Abildakyzy, a resident of Turan district.
Future plans
The Turan district akimat plans to continuously monitor the cleanliness of the city by holding such cleaning campaigns every month in the future. In addition, it is planned to hold special seminars and master classes for schoolchildren and young people in order to provide environmental education.
In conclusion, this Saturday clean-up, held as part of the "Clean Kazakhstan" campaign, is not just a one-time clean-up, it is a real manifestation of civic activism and environmental responsibility. The unity of city residents, their participation in the common good, is an important step towards creating an environmentally safe and comfortable city in the future.
If such events continue to be held more often, Shymkent will undoubtedly become one of the cleanest, most beautiful, and most comfortable cities in the country.
