On July 8, 2025, at a government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, the issues of digitalization of livestock farming were considered. Ministers Zhaslan Madiev and Aidarbek Saparov reported on the ongoing reforms in the sector. This event was a very important step to strengthen veterinary control, increase the effectiveness of vaccination, and ensure the export of livestock products.

Currently, the livestock population in Kazakhstan has increased to 9.6 million heads, and the area of land sown with fodder is 3.3 million hectares. In this regard, the government aims to accelerate development by allocating 160 billion tenge from the budget.

The main result is the creation of a comprehensive (circular) traceability of products. All information on livestock movements, veterinary services, vaccinations, exports and imports will be entered into a single digital platform. The Prime Minister ordered all regions to fully update their data and verify the database by November 1.

According to Zhaslan Madiev and Trend.az, the digital system is implementing AI technologies to monitor livestock, prevent diseases, and monitor livestock with drones. This means that the global trend called "precision livestock farming" is being implemented in Kazakhstan.

In 2023–2024, reforms were also carried out in livestock farming. Agrarian councils, veterinary campaigns, subsidies, and infrastructure were built. State support during this period amounted to 120 billion - 140 billion tenge. However, productivity and export potential have not yet been fully revealed. The reforms of 2025 are aimed at digitally improving these reforms, that is, they seek to modernize previous practices on a digital basis and more effectively.

For example, in 2022-2023, pilot projects based on AI were launched in three regions, but remained out of scale. Last week's decisions required the implementation of a 100% digital system. This means plans to move to a national-scale system that includes the state level, rather than the previously scattered one.

If the government's tasks are fully implemented, Kazakhstan will be one of the first countries in Central Asia to introduce a fully digitalized control system in the livestock sector starting in 2025. This will not only strengthen veterinary safety, but will also increase exports abroad, as well as strengthen consumer confidence in the product.

In addition, the introduction of an end-to-end traceability system is likely to provide opportunities for rural youth to work in the IT sector and accelerate the digital transformation of the rural economy.

The Government meeting held on July 9, 2025 is of historical significance as the beginning of a digital transformation in the livestock sector. Previous reforms - subsidies, infrastructure, advice - are being built on a digital basis, increasing efficiency and export potential. This will bring Kazakhstan's agro-industrial complex to a new level, paving the way for the development of rural regions and technological innovation. This event is a clear manifestation of the harmonious development of the agrarian economy and the digital era.
