On July 23, 2025, another clean-up was held in Shymkent as part of the "Clean Kazakhstan" environmental campaign. This time, cleaning work was organized in the 8th microdistrict of the city, and local residents, along with utility workers, actively participated in the event. During the event, yards and pedestrian paths were cleaned of garbage, and mud and waste were removed from ditches and irrigation systems.
"Clean Kazakhstan" is a large-scale environmental initiative held throughout the country. Its main goal is to raise environmental awareness among citizens, encourage them to treat nature with compassion, and form a culture of maintaining household cleanliness. Through such clean-up campaigns, people begin to understand more deeply that they are not only cleaning their own yard, but also contributing to the overall condition of the environment.
The peculiarity of the weekend is that it is not limited to cleaning activities, but also includes public awareness-raising activities on environmental culture. The organizers provided residents with useful information on waste sorting, water conservation, and green space maintenance, and raised the issue of personal responsibility. The city administration sees this initiative not as a one-time event, but as part of a systematic process of forming an environmental culture.
Similar clean-ups have been held in Shymkent before. For example, in 2023, a large environmental campaign was organized in the Nursat microdistrict of the city, where hundreds of residents and volunteers voluntarily went on a clean-up. At that time, ditches were also cleaned, and tree saplings were planted in green areas near apartment buildings. And in 2024, schoolchildren and youth organizations actively participated in the clean-up event in the Samal microdistrict, where eco-hours and educational lessons were held. Such examples prove that over time this initiative has become a permanent part of city life.
In terms of their impact on the ecosystem, such cleanups are not just a one-time cleanup, but an important step that will bring long-term benefits. Rainwater and irrigation water can flow freely through the ditches cleared of garbage, preventing soil pollution and flooding. In addition, the reduction of open waste prevents the reproduction of insects and rodents that spread various diseases. The cleanliness and greening of the territory improves the overall ecological situation of the city and has a positive effect on the health of residents.
Another important aspect is the change in people's attitude towards the environment. Residents who participate in the clean-up work clean up their surroundings and feel a deeper sense of responsibility for the area. This is an important mechanism that contributes to the formation of environmental awareness and social activism. After such actions, it is often observed that residents voluntarily begin to take care of their yards and properly dispose of garbage.
The city administration and environmental organizations noted that this initiative will be continued. It is expected that similar sebbiliks will be held in other microdistricts in the near future. In addition, in the future, students of schools and colleges, entrepreneurs and public organizations will also be widely involved in these events. This indicates that sebbiliks are gradually becoming a city-wide eco-movement.
In general, the clean-up drive held as part of the "Clean Kazakhstan" campaign is not just a cleaning event for the city of Shymkent, but an effective initiative that raises the environmental consciousness of society, unites residents in common interests, and is aimed at improving the city's ecosystem. Through such collective events, we work not only for the benefit of today, but also for future generations.
Therefore, every resident should perceive participation in such cleanups not only as a duty, but also as a responsibility to society and nature. A clean city is a common goal that can be achieved not only with the participation of the akimat, but also with the participation of every citizen.
