On July 23-24, 2025, explanatory work was carried out with residents in Shymkent to prevent enzootic diseases. This event was jointly organized by the Department of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine of the city akimat, the Veterinary Service MCC, and the Al-Farabi district akimat. In particular, at meetings held in the Tekesu microdistrict, specialists announced that disinfection work would begin on August 10.
Enzootic diseases are chronic or seasonal epidemics that occur regularly in a given area and are transmitted among animals. They can also pose a threat to human health, especially if the disease is contagious or transmitted by vectors (for example, insects). Therefore, measures to prevent such diseases are of great importance for the safety of ecosystems, people, and animals.
During the event, residents were informed about the importance of cleaning barns from animal droppings, grass clippings, and other organic waste, as well as disinfection rules and sanitary requirements. Veterinary specialists emphasized the need for mechanical cleaning, the correct use of disinfectants, and the need to keep barns dry and ventilated.
Such educational work is not new for the city of Shymkent. Similar preventive measures have been organized before. For example, in 2023, disinfection was carried out in the territory of the Karatau district against tuberculosis, brucellosis and anthrax, and more than 150 livestock pens were sanitized. In 2024, during the work carried out in the Abay district, not only pens but also open pastures were cleaned, and special biothermal pits were restored.
A distinctive feature of the 2025 outreach is the increased participation of residents. Previously, veterinary workers often conducted outreach on paper or via text messages, but this year's meetings are being held face-to-face. This method allows for an effective dialogue with residents, answers to questions, and builds trust. In addition, these events are considered an effective tool for increasing environmental literacy.
Disinfection is not only a disease prevention measure, but also an environmental measure that has a positive effect on the city's ecosystem. Timely cleaning of livestock pens and yards reduces soil pollution, prevents the reproduction of various harmful microorganisms and insects. The accumulation of waste is one of the main factors that leads to the destruction of the ecosystem, pollution of groundwater and the spread of unpleasant odors.
In addition, such measures will improve the sanitary and hygienic conditions of the city and positively affect the quality of life of residents. The disinfection of children's playgrounds, areas near schools and hospitals is a contribution to the health of society as a whole.
Compared to previous years, the attitude towards ecology and sanitation is currently changing. This is a reflection of the shared responsibility of both residents and local authorities. For example, while previously residents only took action in the event of an outbreak, now they are beginning to understand that disease prevention is more important. Such changes are the result of constant steps aimed at the stability of the urban ecosystem and the creation of a clean environment.
According to the plan, starting from August 10, large-scale disinfection of livestock premises, disinfection against harmful insects, and sanitary control will be carried out throughout the district. At the same time, the city administration calls on individuals and legal entities to clean their premises in a timely manner, strictly observe veterinary regulations, and responsibly approach safety requirements in animal husbandry.
In conclusion, the measures taken to prevent enzootic diseases in Shymkent are an important step not only for those involved in livestock farming, but also for society and the environment as a whole. Disinfection and compliance with sanitary requirements are a strategic measure aimed at maintaining the balance of the ecosystem and improving the quality of life of city residents.
A clean environment is the key to a healthy society.
