Servicemen of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan have written a new chapter in the nation’s sports history by securing the bronze medal at the Fencing World Championship. The tournament, held in Georgia, brought together the strongest teams from around the globe. In the team épée competition, the Kazakh guardsmen achieved a true sporting breakthrough.

In the bronze medal match, the Kazakhstan team delivered a confident victory over the multiple-time champions — the French national team. The final score was 45:31 in favor of Kazakhstan.

This bronze medal marks the first time in the country's history that a team medal has been won at the world level in épée fencing.

On their path to the podium, the guardsmen demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience, defeating teams from Russia, China, and Italy. In the semifinals, they faced Japan and, despite having a six-touch lead, narrowly lost in a dramatic finish — just as they did a month earlier in the final of the Asian Championship.

The historic team included National Guard servicemen:

• Lieutenant Elmir Alimzhanov – Senior Sports Instructor

• Corporal Ruslan Kurbanov – Senior Sports Instructor

• Corporal Vadim Sharlaimov – Senior Specialist, Senior Instructor in Physical Training and Sports

• And Kirill Prokhodov

This accomplishment is not only a sporting triumph but also a vivid testament to the high level of physical and combat training of the National Guard servicemen. They proudly represent the country not only in service but also on the international stage, reinforcing Kazakhstan’s image as a strong and competitive nation.
