On August 8, at the New Embankment of the Ulba River, a literary and musical performance titled “Adam bolam desеniz” (“If You Wish to Be a Human”) took place, dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet, philosopher, and educator — Abai Qunanbaiuly.

Residents of Ust-Kamenogorsk and guests of the city who attended the event became acquainted with the works of the great poet, enjoyed songs praising the beauty and grandeur of the homeland, and immersed themselves in the festive and inspiring atmosphere. Visitors took part in the “Open Microphone” segment, where anyone could share their thoughts about Abai and read his poems expressively.

A large-scale book exhibition allowed participants to delve deeper into Abai’s creative world, featuring works by his students and followers — Shakarim Qudayberdiuly, Tanirbergen Amirenov, and Sapargali Alimbetov. A handicraft fair and an art exhibition inspired by Abai’s famous works became a wonderful addition to the program.

The audience’s attention was drawn to the theatrical performance “Zhurektin kozi ashylsa” (“When the Eyes of the Heart Are Opened”), based on Abai’s seventeenth Words of Wisdom.

Additionally, through a QR code, participants could listen to audio versions of the poems, making it easier and more engaging to perceive the profound thoughts of the great poet.

At the comic-art space “Abai Alemi — balalar kozimen” (“The World of Abai Through Children’s Eyes”), illustrated interpretations of such works as “Gylym tappai maqtanba” (“Do Not Boast Without Knowledge”), “Jaz” (“Summer”), “Bes narseden qashyq bol” (“Avoid Five Things”), and “Kys” (“Winter”) were presented.

The event concluded with a music zone featuring beloved melodies: “Kozimnіn karasy” (“The Apple my Eyes”), “Zhelsіz tunde jarıq ai” (“A Bright Moon on a Windless Night”), and “Ayttym salem, Kalamqas” (“Greetings, Kalamqas”).

The event became a living bridge between generations, allowing everyone to connect with Abai’s heritage and feel the power of his words and music.
