Preparations for the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions were discussed in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, August 11, 2025 — The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Zhalgas Adilbayev, held a meeting with the Director General of the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia, Mr. Liku Tiguhen Tagay Tadele.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the main areas of religious, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.
Ambassador Zh.Adilbayev spoke about the preparations for the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which will be held on September 17-18, 2025, in Astana. He noted that the Congress is a unique international platform that strengthens interreligious and intercultural dialogue and promotes the ideas of tolerance and mutual understanding between peoples.
Mr. L.Tadele confirmed his participation in the upcoming Congress, emphasizing the importance of exchanging experiences and jointly seeking solutions to current global challenges through dialogue among representatives of various faiths.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed on the further development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Ethiopia in the fields of promoting interreligious harmony and strengthening cultural ties.
For reference: Ethiopia, one of the oldest countries in the world, possesses a rich cultural and religious heritage (Christianity has been practiced since the 4th century, Islam since the 7th century). Today, the country's population exceeds 125 million people, of which 44% are Christians (mainly representatives of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church), 34% are Muslims, and 23% are Evangelicals.
In order to unite the main religious groups, the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia (IRCE) was established in 2010 – an organization uniting the main religious communities of the country with the aim of maintaining religious freedom, harmony, and well-being.
