Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Malaysia Bulat Sugurbayev had a meeting with the Chairman of the Sabah Tourism Board YB Datuk Joniston Bangkuai to discuss prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of tourism and culture. Sabah is one of Malaysia’s states located on the island of Borneo, which makes it geographically and culturally distinct from the country’s main territory on the Malay Peninsula.

During the discussion, the parties reviewed specific areas of collaboration, including the joint promotion of tourism products of Kazakhstan and Sabah through coordination between the Sabah Tourism Board (STB) and Kazakhstani tour operators.

Particular attention was given to the exchange of experience in rural, ecological, cultural, and adventure tourism - sectors in which both Kazakhstan and Sabah have unique natural and ethnocultural resources, including the rich heritage of nomadic culture.

Ambassador Sugurbayev emphasized Kazakhstan’s readiness for active knowledge exchange and the strengthening of bilateral partnerships in the tourism sector. The authorities of Sabah, in turn, expressed interest in developing sustainable ties and implementing joint projects.

STB Chairman Bangkuai noted that Sabah welcomes the opportunity to build strong cooperation with Kazakhstan. He stressed that Sabah has already established itself as a destination for sustainable tourism and expressed confidence that the exchange of experience with Kazakhstan would enrich the tourism offerings of both sides.

As part of the planned cooperation, a concert featuring Kazakhstani performers is scheduled to take place in mid-October at major tourist venues in Sabah.

Strengthening cooperation with Sabah will contribute to increased mutual tourist flows, enhanced cultural exchange, and the expansion of interregional ties between Kazakhstan and Malaysia.
