Kazakhstan and South Africa to Strengthen Cooperation in Healthcare

Pretoria, August 27, 2025 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to South Africa, Yerkin Akhinzhanov, met with Deputy Minister of Health of South Africa, Mathume Joseph Phaahla, at the National Department of Health.

The meeting focused on the prospects for enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the healthcare sector. Particular emphasis was placed on expanding the legal framework and fostering practical collaboration between the two countries’ relevant institutions, including the exchange of scientific expertise, advanced technologies, and best practices in medicine and healthcare.

Ambassador Akhinzhanov reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to deepening cooperation aimed at strengthening the resilience of the national health systems.

Minister Joseph Phaahla stated: “South Africa is interested in expanding cooperation with Kazakhstan”, particularly in studying Kazakhstan’s experience in establishing a system of universal health coverage through the Mandatory Social Health Insurance (MSHI).

Both sides agreed to maintain regular dialogue and reaffirmed their shared commitment to developing mutually beneficial cooperation for the well-being of their peoples.
