Served and Earned a Grant: National Guard Soldier Became a University Student
03.09.2025 08:00:40 1089When Adilkhan Serik was drafted for compulsory service in the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, he could not have imagined that the army would become the first step toward his dream. Today he is a student at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, a recipient of a state educational grant, and an example of how one opportunity can change an entire life.
Before conscription, Adilkhan received a secondary specialized education. After college, he was drafted from Karaganda and assigned to the capital – to military unit 5573 of the National Guard. There, as a guardsman, he carried out patrol duties, maintaining public order on the streets of Astana.
During his service in the National Guard, Adilkhan learned about the state program “Conscripts 2.0”, which allows soldiers to enter a university free of charge to study in-demand specialties. For him, this became a real chance, as the dream of higher education had long lived in his heart.
"To receive the grant, I gave my best effort. I passed the general education test and tried to be the best in service," the guardsman recalls. "When I learned about the program, I realized that I could not miss this opportunity. Earning a grant is double the joy: both for me and for my parents."
Adilkhan grew up in a large family with six children, so the program’s support became significant help for him and his loved ones. Now he is a student at a prestigious university, mastering a modern and promising specialty – biotechnology. His parents are proud of their son and confident that he will achieve success.
Adilkhan’s story is far from unique. This summer, more than 900 guardsmen across the country, having completed their compulsory service, received certificates for free education at leading universities in Kazakhstan.
It should be noted that the personnel of the law and order troops, together with the police, ensure public order in 21 cities across the country. More than 8,000 guardsmen are deployed daily to carry out this mission.
