Kazakhstan’s Ambassador Presented Credentials to Leaders of the European Union

Brussels, September 11, 2025 – Head of the Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the European Union, Ambassador Roman Vassilenko presented his letters of credence to the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen.
During the credential presentation ceremony, Ursula von der Leyen and Antonio Costa extended their sincere wishes of well-being and prosperity to the people and President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, warmly recalling their substantive discussions with the Head of State during the Central Asia – European Union Summit held in Samarkand this past April. The interlocutors expressed mutual interest in further intensifying cooperation.
In subsequent meetings with senior EU officials, the Ambassador noted that the European Union is Kazakhstan’s largest trade and economic partner as well as the main investor in the country's economy. He emphasized the dynamic political dialogue and called for enhanced cooperation in such priority areas as transport and logistics, energy, critical raw materials, digitalization, and others.
The credential presentation ceremony took place in an atmosphere of mutual respect and openness, highlighting the shared commitment to deepening dialogue and cooperation.
The European Union is Kazakhstan’s primary trade and investment partner. In 2024, the trade turnover between the two sides reached $48.8 billion, of which $38.1 billion accounted for exports of Kazakhstani products. The total volume of investments from the EU since 2005 has exceeded $200 billion. More than 3,000 companies with European participation operate successfully in the country, including Shell, Total, Airbus, Alstom, and others.
