On September 8, 2025, a large-scale city beautification event was held in Shymkent, organized by the Karatau municipal state institution. The cleanup was part of a systematic effort to improve sanitary conditions and create a comfortable urban environment.
The main goal of the work was not only to clear designated areas of trash and restore order, but also to foster environmental awareness among city residents. Clean streets, courtyards, and public spaces are directly related to residents' quality of life, their mood, and their perception of their city.
The organizers noted that cleanup days have long been a positive tradition, uniting people of all ages and professions. Every contribution brings the city closer to its modern appearance and makes it more attractive to residents and visitors.
As part of the cleanup day, Karatau KGM staff and volunteers carried out a wide range of activities:
Garbage collection and removal. Streets, courtyards, and squares were cleared. Tons of household waste were taken to designated landfills.
Landscaping and green space maintenance. Trees and shrubs were pruned and new ornamental trees were planted. This will allow for the creation of even more green spaces in the city in the future.
Roadside and sidewalk maintenance. Weeds have been mown, and roadsides and walkways have been cleared.
Irrigation system cleaning. Ditches and drainage channels have been repaired to ensure proper drainage during rainfall and prevent flooding.
Improvement of public spaces. Minor repairs were carried out, including painting benches, trash cans, and children's playgrounds.
All these measures are aimed at improving urban infrastructure and creating comfortable conditions for residents.
Particular attention should be paid to the high level of community participation. Not only staff members but also schoolchildren, students, and ordinary citizens participated in the cleanup. Young people were particularly active—they helped clean up trash, plant trees, and tend to flower beds.
One participant noted, "When you work side by side with your neighbors and friends, you realize that keeping the city clean is a shared responsibility. Every bag of trash collected and every tree planted counts."
The event also included educational outreach. Karatau staff reminded residents of the need to respect nature and spoke about the importance of waste separation and recycling.
Promoting environmental awareness is of strategic importance today. The more citizens understand the importance of these principles, the cleaner and safer our city will be.
The Karatau Municipal State Institution is one of the key departments responsible for maintaining order and public amenities in the city. Its employees monitor the condition of assigned areas on a daily basis, organize waste removal, maintain green spaces, and repair hardscape elements.
The institution's management emphasized that cleanup days help solve several problems at once: maintaining cleanliness, engaging the population in socially beneficial activities, and instilling in the younger generation a caring attitude toward their hometown.
Karatau representatives announced that similar campaigns will continue. Plans include additional greening of courtyards and squares, improvement of playgrounds and sports fields, and expansion of the sanitation program.
By the end of the year, plans are underway to plant new trees and ornamental shrubs, conduct a series of environmental campaigns, and hold educational meetings with residents. Particular attention will be paid to joint work with educational institutions and youth organizations.
Beyond their practical benefits, such events have an important social impact. Joint efforts strengthen mutual understanding among residents and foster a sense of responsibility and pride for their city. People begin to appreciate the cleanliness of their surroundings, having made the effort to maintain it.
The cleanup day held on September 8, 2025, by the Karatau municipal government agency , became a clear example of how the joint efforts of the state and citizens can transform the appearance of a city.
As a result of the work done, streets and courtyards became cleaner, green spaces were more well-maintained, and residents were given the opportunity to spend the day in a way that benefited the city and themselves.
A clean, well-maintained Shymkent is a shared treasure. And every cleanup day reminds us: responsibility for order lies with every city resident. Only together can we make Shymkent a beautiful, green, and modern metropolis.
