On September 13, 2025, a citywide cleanup event called "Clean City" was held in the Dostyk microdistrict of Shymkent's Abay district. This large-scale event brought together the district administration, municipal services, representatives of various departments and organizations, and local residents, who demonstrated active civic engagement and contributed to the improvement of the area.

The main goal of the event was not only to establish sanitary order, but also to raise environmental awareness among the population, improve the quality of life of citizens, and instill in the younger generation a caring attitude toward the environment.

The organizers emphasized that keeping the city clean is not a one-time event, but an ongoing effort that requires the combined efforts of the government, public organizations, and the residents themselves.

During the cleanup day, extensive work was carried out in the microdistrict:

  • cutting down and removing dry trees and branches;

  • mowing grass and cleaning green areas;

  • washing roads and sidewalks with special equipment;

  • disinfection and sanitization of container sites;

  • cleaning and removal of household waste accumulated in courtyards and vacant lots.

Thanks to the coordinated work of public services and volunteers, the neighborhood acquired a well-groomed and tidy appearance.

Various city departments joined the event: the Department of Social Welfare, the Department of Culture, the Department of Tourism and External Relations, the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure, the Department of Agriculture, and other structures.

Each department contributed. The Department of Transport provided specialized equipment for roadside cleanup, and the Department of Culture organized a short concert for the participants to create a positive atmosphere.

The activity of public associations and volunteers drew particular attention during the cleanup day. Youth organizations and resource centers sent dozens of volunteers to clean up courtyards, whitewash trees, and sort trash.

Young people's participation demonstrated that environmental awareness is increasingly becoming an important part of their worldview. Such events help foster a sense of responsibility for the cleanliness and well-being of the city.

In addition to the cleanup, the campaign included educational talks with the public. Specialists spoke about the importance of waste separation, conservation of natural resources, and respect for green spaces.

Environmentalists noted that the development of an environmental culture is a long-term process, and such events play a key role in its development.

The organizers emphasized that the sanitary condition of the area is directly linked to public health. Timely garbage removal, grass mowing, and removal of dead wood prevent the spread of infections, inhibit insect and rodent breeding, and reduce the risk of fires.

Thus, the cleanup day became not only a beautification event, but also a preventative measure in the area of public health.

Local residents of the Dostyk microdistrict expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants of the event. Many said that such events make the neighborhood cleaner, more comfortable, and more attractive. Some families attended the cleanup event with their children, demonstrating by personal example the importance of maintaining cleanliness and order.

The Abay District Administration announced that such cleanup days will be held regularly. Each month, a specific neighborhood or community will be targeted for large-scale cleanup and improvement.

In addition, the Clean City program will implement educational projects for schoolchildren and students aimed at developing environmentally responsible behavior in young people.

The cleanup day held on September 13 demonstrated that working together unites people, fosters a sense of belonging, and strengthens social solidarity.

The event proved that cleanliness and order depend not only on the work of public utilities but also on the active participation of residents themselves. The more people participate in such events, the more comfortable and enjoyable life in the city becomes.

Thus, the cleanup day in the Abaysky District became a shining example of successful collaboration between authorities, organizations, and citizens aimed at improving the environmental situation and enhancing the quality of the urban environment.
