New Almaty–Bangkok Flights to Expand Cooperation Opportunities Between Kazakhstan and Thailand

Bangkok, September 17, 2025 – The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Kingdom of Thailand, together with Thai AirAsia X, co-organized a press conference dedicated to the launch of three new international routes, including flights from Bangkok (Don Mueang Airport) to Almaty (Kazakhstan). The event was attended by more than 100 representatives of leading Thai and international media outlets.

In their remarks, Kazakhstani diplomats emphasized the importance of the direct air connection between Bangkok and Almaty for the development of bilateral ties:“The opening of this direct flight will mark a new stage in expanding contacts between Kazakhstan and Thailand. It will create additional conditions for the growth of tourism exchanges, strengthening cultural and business ties, and serve as a stimulus for further partnership development between our countries.”

During the briefing, Thai AirAsia X management presented plans for the expansion of the airline’s route network. CEO Mrs. Pattra Boosarawongse highlighted that the launch of three new destinations – Almaty (Kazakhstan), Sendai (Japan), and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) – is part of the company’s strategy to enter new promising markets.“The opening of the Almaty route is especially important for us – it is our first step into Central Asia. Kazakhstan is a unique destination with a rich culture, modern infrastructure, and a comfortable climate attractive for tourists. We are confident that this route will be in demand among both Thai travelers and guests from Kazakhstan,” she noted.

Thai AirAsia X Executive Chairman Mr. Tassapon Bijleveld added that the company views Kazakhstan not only as a tourist market but also as a strategic direction:“We are confident that the new flight to Almaty will open up additional opportunities for business development, investment, and the strengthening of ties between our countries.”

The launch of direct flights between Bangkok and Almaty marks a new stage in strengthening relations between Kazakhstan and Thailand. The new route will create additional opportunities for tourism growth, cultural exchange, and business cooperation.

The press conference concluded with the note that regular flights will help boost passenger traffic and enhance transport and logistics connectivity between the two countries.

For reference: In 2024, more than 200,000 Kazakhstani citizens visited Thailand. Thai AirAsia X is Thailand’s largest low-cost carrier and part of the international AirAsia Group, which operates flights to over 160 destinations across Asia and beyond. The company is actively developing passenger services, including routes connecting Southeast Asia and Central Asia.

Starting December 1, 2025, Bangkok–Almaty flights will operate four times a week – on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays – using Airbus A330 aircraft.
