Regional workshop “Developing digital competencies in education” as part of implementing conceptual approaches to enhance rural schools in the Republic of Kazakhstan “Auyl mektebi – sapa alany”

On September 25, 2025, Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Department of East Kazakhstan Region held a regional workshop on the topic: “Developing digital competencies in education”.
The goal of the workshop was to support the professional growth of rural school teachers through improving digital literacy, spreading best practices and enhancing methodological approaches.
The event was hosted by Orel Secondary School of Katon-Karagai district and served as a practical implementation of the Republican Project “Auyl mektebi – sapa alany”, aimed at improving the quality of education in rural schools.
During the workshop, G.M. Boshayeva, a methodologist of the Örken Center, presented the goals, objectives, and phases of implementing the Auyl mektebi - sapa alany project.
A.K. Jumagulova, headmaster of Orel Secondary School, presented to the participants of the workshop the school’s practical experience that has the status of a flagship school for implementing the project “Enhancing the potential of flagship schools in rural areas”, highlighting the importance of an integrated approach to updating the content of education, introducing digital solutions and expanding opportunities for students and teachers of small rural schools.
As part of its cooperation with the attached small schools, the flagship school organized online lessons in the following subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and English.
The workshop concluded with a discussion of key issues and future collaboration opportunities. The participants were provided with practical recommendations and suggestions. They expressed their gratitude to the organizers of the event and the school staff.
Over 50 teachers and headmasters from rural and small-scale schools of East Kazakhstan region participated in the workshop.
