A total of 156 markets have been modernized over the past four years. According to the Roadmap, 100 markets are planned for modernization this year. This was announced at the Central Communications Service by Yernur Zhautikbayev, Deputy Chairman of the Trade Committee of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

"Currently, of these 100 markets, construction work has been fully completed at 57, while at the rest, construction work has been partially completed or is nearing completion," the spokesman said.

According to him, the Ministry of Trade intends to increase the share of modern retail to 70% by 2029. This figure currently stands at 41%. Systematic work is also underway to introduce cashless payment systems and strengthen sanitary standards and fire safety measures. In accordance with legal requirements, market owners who fail to complete modernization work will be subject to administrative penalties starting January 1, 2026.
