Digital Inclusion Program launched to support schoolchildren with special educational needs

As part of implementing the joint action plan for 2025-2026, Y. Altynsarin National Academy of Education of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Kazakhstan has launched the Digital Inclusion Program, approved on April 18, 2025. This initiative aims to enhance functional digital literacy among children with special educational needs. As part of the project, school-aged children with special educational needs are engaged in comprehensive digital literacy programs, among the participants there are eight visually impaired children.
On October 7, 2025, a specialized classroom for visually impaired children was opened at School-Center for Additional Education No. 19.
To support learning, each student is provided with a laptop and smartphone, equipped with special apps for blind and visually impaired users and other necessary programs.
The programs and devices the students learn: the components of Iphone, laptop and the system block, Touch typing techniques - “Blind typing” and “Ten-finger typing”, Windows Explorer, Notepad and Microsoft Word, Google Chrome, Zoom/ Microsoft Teams/Google Meet, creating and working with the mailbox, applications - WhatsApp, YouTube, Kaspi Bank, inDriver, YandexTaxi, library “av3715”, programs for downloading and reading books and many other applications.
This project has demonstrated that students with visual impairments can be effectively prepared for additional education. It also empowers them to become more independent, enhances their digital competence, and improves their prospects for future employment and social integration.
