Kazakhstan and Malaysia Strengthen Cooperation in Environmental Protection and Sustainable Growth

October 22, 2025, Kuala Lumpur — Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Malaysia Bulat Sugurbayev met with Malaysia’s Minister of Plantations and Commodities, who is also Acting Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Seri Johari bin Abdul Ghani.

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in transport and logistics, tourism, halal production and exports, fisheries, and the rational use of water resources. Special attention was given to environmental protection and the promotion of sustainable development principles. The Ambassador informed the Minister about Kazakhstan’s efforts to improve the ecological situation and preserve biodiversity, particularly noting the growth of the saiga population and international efforts to protect the species.

Johari bin Abdul Ghani noted that Kazakhstan is a rapidly growing economy and expressed Malaysia’s interest in its achievements in the field of green and sustainable growth. The parties also exchanged views on cooperation in multilateral fora, including within the framework of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Ambassador invited Minister Johari bin Abdul Ghani to visit Kazakhstan next year to discuss specific areas of bilateral partnership and the implementation of joint initiatives.
