Kazakhstan and the UAE Agree on Joint Anti-Drug Measures

Abu Dhabi, October 23, 2025 – The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Arab Emirates, Rauan Zhumabek, held a meeting with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Chairman of the National Anti-Narcotics Agency of the UAE, which was established on August 3, 2025.
«Kazakhstan and the UAE share a common commitment to strengthening regional and global security. Combating illicit drug trafficking requires coordinated efforts and mutual trust between our nations», – Ambassador R.Zhumabek noted.
In response, Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized: «We view Kazakhstan as a reliable partner in protecting public health and stand ready to develop practical cooperation in the field of drug control».
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to countering the illicit trafficking of narcotic substances, strengthening cooperation between the relevant authorities, enhancing the exchange of information, and improving preventive measures.
Both sides agreed that the threats posed by illegal drug trafficking are transnational in nature, necessitating stronger interagency coordination and continuous exchange of operational data. Kazakhstan and the UAE possess significant potential for developing joint initiatives, including the exchange of experience in drug addiction prevention, professional training, and the implementation of educational programs.
Following the talks, the parties reached an agreement to establish direct contacts between the competent agencies in the near future and to organize a series of joint events aimed at enhancing anti-narcotics cooperation and improving the effectiveness of the fight against drug trafficking.
Background: The National Anti-Narcotics Agency of the UAE was established on August 3, 2025, to coordinate the state’s efforts in combating illicit drug trafficking and preventing drug addiction. The Agency is responsible for implementing the national anti-drug policy, facilitating information exchange among relevant authorities, and promoting international cooperation in this field.
