Canada Celebrates the Republic Day of Kazakhstan

Ottawa, October 24, 2025 – A diplomatic reception dedicated to the Republic Day of Kazakhstan and the 35th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty was held in the capital of Canada. The event brought together around 300 guests, including representatives of the Government and Parliament of Canada, members of the diplomatic corps, business and academic circles, as well as the Kazakh diaspora.
Opening the official reception, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Canada Dauletbek Kussainov emphasized the historical significance of the 1990 Declaration as an important milestone in strengthening Kazakhstan’s sovereignty and independence. He noted that over the past decades, Kazakhstan has undergone large-scale transformations, becoming a major regional economic player and a reliable partner of the international community.
Special attention was given to the development of Kazakh-Canadian cooperation, which continues to demonstrate steady progress across all key areas of the bilateral relationship.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, the Honourable Robert Oliphant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered congratulatory remarks, commending Kazakhstan’s achievements in promoting regional stability and advancing the principles of multilateral diplomacy. He underlined that Ottawa is strongly interested in expanding its partnership with Astana and regards Kazakhstan as a like-minded partner in the pursuit of international peace and security.
Representing Canada’s business community, Sean Quinn, Senior Advisor at Cameco – one of the pioneering Canadian investors and long-standing partners of Kazakhstan – highlighted the enduring nature of cooperation in the uranium mining sector and reaffirmed the company’s readiness to implement new joint projects.
The musical segment of the evening was adorned by the performance of the national anthems of Kazakhstan and Canada by Steve Barakatt, renowned composer, pianist, and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, who had previously performed on the stage of Astana Opera on March 8, 2025.
Guests also had the opportunity to explore Kazakhstan’s cultural heritage in a specially decorated yurt, taste traditional Kazakh cuisine, and experience the warmth of genuine Kazakh hospitality.
The celebration of the Republic Day in Ottawa became a symbol of the enduring friendship between Kazakhstan and Canada and reaffirmed the shared commitment of both nations to sustainable development and international partnership.
