Senators of the Spanish Parliament expressed interest in developing legal cooperation with Kazakhstan

As part of her participation in the VI Congress of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice Chairperson of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan Elvira Azimova met with Javier Ignacio Maroto Aranzabal, First Vice-President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Spain, and a group of senators.

At the meetings, the participants discussed issues related to strengthening the rule of law, protecting human rights, and developing democratic institutions in their countries. Elvira Azimova spoke about legal reforms in Kazakhstan, as well as the proposal made this year by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to transition from a bicameral parliament to a unicameral one.

Participants in the meetings were also informed about Kazakhstan's signing of the UN Convention on Cybercrime and the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers' approval in June 2025 of Kazakhstan's application to accede to the Council of Europe Convention on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters. Senators expressed interest in studying Kazakhstan's legal policy and willingness to share Spain's experience.
