Expanding Economic Cooperation with the Business Community of Sabah
05.11.2025 13:00:29 1004 November 2025, Kuala Lumpur. The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Malaysia, H.E. Bulat Sugurbayev, held a meeting with representatives of the regional branch of the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) in the state of Sabah.
During the discussion, the parties reviewed practical steps to deepen interregional trade, economic, and investment cooperation, including the development of industrial partnerships, logistics connectivity, tourism exchange, and joint initiatives in the field of green energy.
Sabah is one of Malaysia’s key centers for the production of oil, natural gas, and palm oil. The state is also actively developing its agro-industrial complex, wood processing, food industry, and renewable energy sector.
The meeting also highlighted the strategic geographic positions of both Kazakhstan and Malaysia, particularly Sabah, which lies at the crossroads of maritime routes between Southeast Asia and the Pacific region, and benefits from modern ports and logistics infrastructure. This makes Sabah a promising platform for implementing joint projects and expanding Kazakhstan’s export routes to the ASEAN region.
The regular direct flight between Almaty and Kuala Lumpur, along with Kazakhstan’s favorable business climate and investor support measures, creates broad opportunities to promote Kazakhstan as a new and attractive destination for Malaysian tourists and investors seeking to enter the Kazakh market and expand further into neighboring regions.
The parties agreed to continue targeted work on promoting the Kazakh market in Sabah and organizing business missions to Kazakhstan.
