Makkah, November 6, 2025 — The Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Jeddah, Ruslan Kospanov, visited the “Clock Tower Museum” in Makkah, located within the iconic building of the same name — a remarkable achievement of architectural and engineering excellence.
During the meeting between the Kazakh diplomat and the Museum’s General Director, Naif Al-Maliki, the two sides discussed potential areas and mechanisms for implementing joint projects and initiatives in the fields of tourism, science, and culture.
As a first step, the parties reached an agreement to introduce special discounts and privileges for citizens of Kazakhstan visiting the Museum. In addition, special arrangements will be made for official delegations from Kazakhstan, and efforts will be launched to include the Kazakh language among the available options in the Museum’s portable audio guide system.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed readiness to maintain close working contacts and begin drafting the necessary documents to formalize the agreements reached.
The Clock Tower Museum in Makkah is located on the upper floors of the Clock Tower — part of the Abraj Al-Bait Towers complex, directly opposite the Grand Mosque (Al-Masjid Al-Haram). The Museum was established under the auspices of the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology and is dedicated to the themes of time, astronomy, and the Islamic calendar. The Clock Tower is unique for several reasons and is listed in the Guinness World Records for the following features:
- The world’s largest clock face — each of its four dials has a diameter and height of approximately 43 meters.
- One of the tallest towers on the planet — standing at around 601 meters, it is the third-tallest building in the world (after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and Tokyo Skytree in Japan, when measured by spire height).
- The world’s highest crescent structure — a golden crescent at the tower’s pinnacle rises about 23 meters high, weighs over 35 tons, and is illuminated by laser projectors visible from up to 30 kilometers away.
