An online store has been launched for inmates at a maximum-security facility in Semey

In the Abai region, a maximum-security correctional facility has introduced an online store that allows inmates to order food and essential goods through special terminals.

The electronic store operates as a closed digital system in which inmates can select from permitted categories of goods: food products, hygiene items, household supplies, and stationery. After an order is placed through the terminal, store employees prepare the purchase set and deliver it to the facility. All items undergo mandatory inspection.

“Our task is to provide a simple and transparent system where every operation is recorded. The first orders have already been placed and delivered to the inmates. For them, it is convenient and accessible. We are constantly expanding the assortment,” noted individual entrepreneur Batyrbek Amirhanov.

“I like that everything is fair: the price is fixed, and the total amount is shown immediately. The interface is simple — even those who are not familiar with technology can easily understand it. Now we can check our balance in real time. The introduction of such services demonstrates the drive to modernize the penitentiary system and create conditions where processes become more transparent and convenient for both staff and inmates,” shared one of the inmates.

“The electronic store has significantly streamlined the process of supplying inmates with goods. There is no longer a need for paper lists and manual checks. Digitalization is the path to more efficient and transparent work,” emphasized Aydyn Kalelov.
