On December 1, 2025, the mayor of Shymkent, Gabit Syzdykbekov, took part in the ceremonial launch of the drinking water system in the Aikol residential area. This event is a long-awaited solution to an important social issue that the residents of the district have been waiting for. Previously, during meetings with the city akim, the people expressed their concern about the shortage of drinking water for many years and asked to build the appropriate infrastructure. Taking these requests into account, a decision was made to implement the project.

The main goal of the project is to provide the Aikol residential area with high-quality and uninterrupted water. In this regard, 14.7 kilometers of water pipelines were built. As a result of the construction, along with private housing, social facilities - a total of 38 facilities - received stable drinking water. This, in turn, will significantly improve the daily living conditions of the region's residents and significantly increase their quality of life.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, the city mayor Gabit Syzdykbekov noted that the work being done for the benefit of the residents of Shymkent will continue. He expressed his gratitude to the sponsors, contracting organizations and all the employees who worked. He especially noted that the project was implemented on time and with high quality, and was completed in a short period of time. The akim said that this is a clear result of mutual trust and joint work between the authorities, entrepreneurs and the population.

— Today is a special joy for the people of the Aikol residential area. Access to clean drinking water is one of the main needs of every citizen. Safe, clean water is a guarantee of health. Therefore, we consider providing water to every settlement in the city as one of the main tasks. There is still a lot of work ahead. Infrastructure development will continue, — the city mayor said in his speech.

The residents who attended the event also expressed their gratitude to the akim and all the citizens who participated in the project. They raised the issue of not only water, but also the issue of connecting the natural gas system in the future, and conveyed their requests to the city leader. In turn, the akim said that this issue would also be resolved in stages.

The commissioning of the water system in the Aikol residential area is a clear manifestation of the open dialogue between the akimat and residents, the principle of the government listening to the voice of the people. This project is one of the urgent and effective steps aimed at improving the lives of the city's population. Currently, the city of Shymkent is developing rapidly, new microdistricts and settlements are emerging. According to the City Energy and Infrastructure Development Department, the drinking water coverage rate in Shymkent has reached 99.5 percent. This is a high indicator at the republican level. In recent years, many important projects have been implemented in the city to provide residents with clean water. Connecting newly added settlements to drinking water remains one of the main priorities.

A number of major projects were successfully completed in 2025. The settlements of Tekesu, Kyzylzhar-2 and Aikol were covered with pipelines, and hundreds of families received clean water. The problem of living on transported water or temporary wells, as before, is gradually being resolved. This will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the socio-economic development, demography and well-being of the population of Shymkent.

The Aikol residential area is a region with high potential and great prospects. Every year, new housing is being built here, and people are moving in. Therefore, the systematic development of engineering infrastructure is a solid foundation for the development of the region. The commissioning of the water system is an important step in this direction. In the near future, roads will be repaired here, the electricity system will be upgraded, and work on natural gas transmission will continue.
