Trade Policy Review of Vanuatu Held Under Kazakhstan’s Chairmanship at the WTO

Geneva, 10 December 2025 – On 10 and 12 December, the Trade Policy Review of Vanuatu is taking place at the headquarters of the World Trade Organization under the chairmanship of H.E. Ambassador Kairat Torebayev, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the WTO and Chair of the Trade Policy Review Body.

The delegation of Vanuatu is led by H.E. Ambassador Sambuya Antas, Permanent Representative of Vanuatu to the WTO. During the meeting, Vanuatu presented information on its trade and economic developments, including progress under Vision 2030, measures to support economic recovery following natural disasters and the pandemic, reforms in digital trade and investment policies, and the modernization of trade facilitation procedures. Members also discussed efforts to strengthen export potential in agriculture, tourism and services, as well as steps to enhance the economy’s resilience to climate-related risks and natural disasters.

WTO Members commended Vanuatu’s strong commitment to the multilateral trading system, its active engagement in the work of WTO bodies and in discussions on WTO reform, including on trade facilitation, investment facilitation, e-commerce and sustainable fisheries management. Members also underlined Vanuatu’s important role in advancing the climate agenda and advocating for the interests of small island developing states.

Chair Torebayev thanked Vanuatu and WTO Members for a constructive and substantive exchange of views. He emphasized that Trade Policy Reviews are an essential mechanism for enhancing transparency, building trust and supporting reforms that foster sustainable economic growth and development.

The Trade Policy Review of Vanuatu is the final Trade Policy Review scheduled in 2025. In total, 16 Trade Policy Reviews were conducted under the WTO’s Trade Policy Review Mechanism this year, contributing to greater openness and predictability in Members’ trade regimes. The next Trade Policy Review within the WTO will take place in February 2026 and will be dedicated to The Gambia.
