Daejeon, 2 October 2026 – H.E. Asset Issenali, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Korea, attended the opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Daejeon.

Dr. Lee Sunghee, founder and head of the South Korean space company CONTEC, has been appointed Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Ambassador noted that the opening of the Honorary Consulate holds particular significance following President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s recent state visit to the Republic of Korea, which elevated bilateral relations to a “Future-Oriented Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.”

Ambassador Issenali emphasized that, following the agreements reached at the highest level, Kazakhstan’s main focus is on their practical implementation: attracting new Korean investment and technologies, developing industrial cooperation, science and innovation, and expanding direct contacts between the business communities of the two countries.

In this regard, the Honorary Consulate is expected to serve as an additional practical mechanism for advancing economic and technological cooperation, supporting Kazakh and Korean companies, establishing new business ties and implementing joint projects.

During the meeting with the Honorary Consul, particular attention was paid to cooperation in the space sector and satellite technologies. Dr. Lee Sunghee worked for many years as a researcher at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) before founding CONTEC in 2015. The company specializes in satellite systems, ground infrastructure, satellite data processing and other space technologies.

The participants noted that cooperation is already taking practical shape. CONTEC is developing cooperation with Kazakhstan’s Ghalam company in satellite technologies and Earth observation. The parties agreed to support the further expansion of this work and explore new areas of technological partnership.

“The Honorary Consulate is more than a new office. It should become a practical bridge between our countries, connecting people, businesses, institutions and new ideas. Our task today is to translate the new momentum in Kazakhstan–Korea relations into concrete projects and tangible results,” Ambassador Issenali stated.

The Embassy and the Honorary Consulate agreed to maintain close working ties, jointly promote investment and technological projects, and facilitate the entry of new Korean companies into Kazakhstan’s market.
