Preparations for the visit of the OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan to Kabul were discussed in Jeddah

Jeddah, 12 January 2026 – The Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Jeddah and Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ruslan Kospanov took part in a technical-level preparatory meeting organized as part of the preparations for the upcoming visit of the OIC Ministerial Contact Group on Afghanistan to Kabul.
The technical meeting marked an important stage in the process of preparing for the forthcoming visit and coordinating joint efforts of the OIC Member States. During the meeting, participants focused on addressing organizational and technical issues, as well as on agreeing the agenda of the visit of the OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan to Kabul.
The diplomats exchanged views on key aspects of the upcoming activities, underscoring the importance of a coordinated approach by OIC Member States to engagement with Afghanistan and ensuring the effectiveness of the visit.
For reference: The OIC Ministerial Contact Group on Afghanistan was established in accordance with Article 33 of Resolution No. 61/51-POL “On the Situation in Afghanistan,” adopted at the 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OIC Member States held on 21–22 June 2025 in Istanbul.
The Contact Group was established with the aim of coordinating efforts, promoting cooperation, and ensuring coherence of actions by OIC Member States on issues related to Afghanistan, including political, humanitarian, and economic aspects.
On 23 September 2025, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Kazakhstan took part in a meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan. The members of the Contact Group include Kazakhstan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Pakistan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Indonesia, The Gambia, Uzbekistan, Iran, Egypt, and Azerbaijan.
