Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during his working visit to Shymkent last year, gave specific instructions on the modernization of transport, utility and social infrastructure. Currently, a comprehensive program is being actively implemented in the metropolis on the instructions of the city akim.

The project includes the construction and expansion of roads, the modernization of bus stops and street lighting. The main goal of the program is to reduce traffic congestion by improving the connectivity of the city's districts and optimizing traffic on central streets.

In this regard, in December 2024, work began on the construction of a road overpass over the railway on Momynov and Tlenshin streets.

Today, the technical opening ceremony of the new overpass on Momynov Street took place, and vehicle traffic was opened.

The event was attended by the mayor of Shymkent, Gabit Syzdykbekov, and local residents. During the ceremony, the head of the metropolis noted that the development of modern and safe transport infrastructure is one of the priorities of the city administration.

It is worth noting that the new facility connects the eastern part of the city with the central districts. It will not only ensure safe passage along the railway line, but also increase transport infrastructure and reduce travel time.

Currently, improvements are continuing in the area adjacent to the crossing: pedestrian lanes are being constructed and landscaped, street infrastructure elements and street lights are being installed.

This year, it is also planned to put into operation a road crossing on Tlenshin Street. This will allow for additional redistribution of traffic flow and increase the capacity of the street-road network.

In addition, a road junction is being built in Shymkent at the intersection of Baidibek Bi Avenue and Tolemetov Street, which is also planned to be put into operation this year.

It is worth noting that, according to the results of last year, more than 1,059 kilometers of roads were paved with asphalt in the city, and the street lighting rate was 100 percent.
