Kazakhstan to host Regional Environmental Summit

From April 22 to 24, 2026, the capital of Kazakhstan will host the first Regional Environmental Summit, which will bring together state leaders, experts, and heads of international organizations to discuss environmental and water resource issues and reach agreements on key issues.
The aim of the event is to create an open international platform for developing joint practical solutions to environmental challenges.
Around 1,500 participants from Central Asia, the European Union, the SCO, and the Middle East are expected to attend the Summit to discuss pressing issues and reach intergovernmental agreements.
The Summit will discuss issues related to eight key topics. These are:
- Adaptation and economic resilience to environmental natural risks;
- Food security and the region's ecosystem;
- Sustainable management of natural resources;
- Combating air pollution and waste management;
- Mechanisms for achieving environmental ambitions;
- Fair and inclusive transition;
- Environmental and digital competencies;
- Support for climate transition.
A joint declaration by the heads of state of Central Asia is planned to be adopted during the summit.
The initiative to hold the 2026 Regional Environmental Summit (RES 2026) in partnership with the UN was announced by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in 2023.
