Bucharest, January 29, 2026 — A meeting was held between the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Romania, E.Ali, and F.Jianu, President of the National Council of Small and Medium-Sized Private Enterprises of Romania.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of Kazakhstan–Romania trade, economic and investment cooperation, as well as the role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in deepening bilateral relations. It was noted that in Romania, as in the European Union as a whole, SMEs account for approximately 99.7% of all registered companies, forming the backbone of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and employment.

Particular attention was paid to expanding direct contacts between the business communities of the two countries, developing industrial cooperation and implementing joint projects with SME participation. In this context, issues related to fostering a favorable business environment and institutional support were discussed, drawing in particular on Romania’s experience in shaping and implementing entrepreneurship policy, including Jianu’s tenure as Minister for Entrepreneurship, Trade and Tourism.

The Ambassador of Kazakhstan informed his counterpart about the preparation of the upcoming meeting of the bilateral Intergovernmental Commission, scheduled to take place in April this year in Astana, and invited the Romanian side to participate in a business forum to be held in the framework of this meeting.

F.Jianu, in turn, highlighted the significant potential for expanding cooperation between entrepreneurs of the two countries and expressed his readiness to facilitate the strengthening of direct business-to-business contacts between Kazakhstan and Romania, including within the framework of the forthcoming business forum in Astana.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening cooperation and agreed to continue a practical dialogue through business associations and relevant sectoral institutions.
