In the medium—security institution of the penal colony in the Abai region, convicts employed in a workshop for the manufacture of metal structures and applied art products began to produce a split for livestock, a special machine designed for the safe fixation of farm animals.
This equipment is used on farms when working with cattle during veterinary and zootechnical activities, including vaccination, chipping, treatment, artificial insemination and branding. The split design ensures reliable fixation of the animal's head and body, which increases staff safety and reduces stress among livestock.
The first machine was made by individual order of a peasant farm in the Almaty region. Three convicts with experience and skills in metalworking participated in the execution of the order. The average production time for such products is from three to four days.
— When you work on a real order and realize that the safety of people and animals depends on the quality of your work, you begin to treat work and yourself differently. This job provides an opportunity to correct past mistakes with deeds, acquire a profession and be released with the understanding that you can be useful to society," the convict shared.
— The involvement of convicts in the manufacture of demanded products allows not only to ensure their employment, but also to form practical skills that will be in demand after their release. Such orders confirm that the production facilities of the institution meet the requirements of the market," said Kuanyshbek Tukanov, head of the Labor Organization Department for convicts. The development of production workshops in penal institutions contributes to the resocialization of convicts and the expansion of cooperation with representatives of the agricultural sector. The institution notes that industrial activity is an important part of the social adaptation of convicts.
