Vienna, 1 February 2026 -  The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Austria took part in a wreath—laying ceremony dedicated to the anniversary of the historic escape of Soviet prisoners of war from the "death block" of the Mauthausen concentration camp, one of the tragic symbols of the Nazi extermination system.

The participation of the Kazakh side in the commemorative events is marked by an expression of deep respect and reverence for the memory of the heroes who came from Kazakhstan, who, being in the conditions of the Nazi camps, showed courage, fortitude and unyielding will in the fight against fascism. A wreath was laid at the Kazakh memorial plaque installed on the territory of the Mauthausen memorial complex in memory of Kazakhstani victims of the Nazi camps. Their feat is an integral part of the historical memory of the people of Kazakhstan, and the plaque symbolizes the contribution of the people of Kazakhstan to the common struggle for freedom and peace.
